Karnika Seth is an Internationally renowned cyberlawyer and Intellectual Property expert and is the Founder and Chairperson of Lex Cyberia. She is also the Managing Partner of Seth Associates, law firm based in India specializing in cyberlaws and Intellectual property. She is a well known authority on cyberlaws and has been on lecture circuit at seminars. Dr. Seth practices law before the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India and actively handles cyberlaw & Intellectual property law matters ( both civil and criminal) before various courts in India. She has actively resolved many Cybercrime cases in conjunction with the Cyber crime cell set up in various states and other law enforcement agencies including plastic card frauds, defamation on social Media, online child abuse ,e-banking frauds,identity theft, indecent representation of women, phishing, pornography ,MMS attack cases,data theft , hacking amongst other cybercrimes. She has spoken at more than 1000 seminars, conferences and workshops and has authored several books, e-books,white papers, legal toolkits, policy documents and recommendations for reforming cyberlaws in the country. She received the Great India Woman Award 2021 and the Eminent CIO of India Award 2021. Dr. Seth received the Constitution Day Award 2024 and the Award for Excellence in Cyberlaws Practice at Future Crime Summit 2024. On the International Women's day, 2022, her book , Women rights against cybercrimes, a G 20 initiative, was released by the Ministry of Information Technology, GOI. In 2022, she was conferred with the Platinum Excellence Amrit Award , the Virangana Samman , and the Exceptional Women of Excellence Award by the Women Economic Forum. She received the National Gaurav Award in 2017, Digital empowerment award in 2015. Dr. Seth was conferred Law Day Award in 2012 for authoring a comprehensive book titled "Computers, Internet and New Technology Laws" published by Butterworths Lexisnexis.
Dr. Seth works with various international organizations that consistently contribute to the development of cyberlaws across multiple jurisdictions . In 2014, she was invited in an expert consultation organized by the Commission for Protection of Child rights in conjunction with UNICEF to give her recommendations on strategies to combat the rising child abuse on internet. She is associated with the International Telecommunication Union's initiatives and is empanelled as cyberlaw expert by its India chapter . She is also member in the Global Cyber security Group initiative, an International network of cyber experts. In 2012, she spoke on IT Act implementation and challenges at a deliberation on cyber and network security organized by the Council of Europe and Assocham.
She regularly conducts cybercrime investigation workshops for training law enforcement bodies and has been associated with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Government of India for strengthening cyberlaws in India. She is empanelled as legal expert to advise the National Internet Exchange of India and the Office of Comptroller of Certifying Authorities constituted under the IT Act, 2000. She is also empanelled Legal expert & advises the Ministry of Defence, Government of India on National Project(s). She is G 100's country chair in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity and recently voluntarily drafted a proposed AI law for India. She is empaneled as Senior Legal Counsel in TCIL and is an accomplished Arbitrator empaneled with NIXI, WIPO and CIArb, London. Her expert views have been solicited by the Indian Parliament ,the Ministry of Information Technology, Government of India and the Cyber Appellate Tribunal for suggesting reforms to the framework of cyberlaws in India. She had contributed in the introduction of the recent amendments incorporated under the Indian Information Technology Act, 2000 . Her recommendations to the Indian Parliament on Privacy laws also led to the introduction of new regulatory laws under the Information Technology Act, 2000.She contributed to the Ministry deliberations on creating social media framework and laws for government organizations and developing a due diligence code for intermediaries in India. She regularly advises Adjudicating Officers and other functionaries appointed under Information Technology Act,2000 on any complex issues related to cyberlaw. In addition,she has recently assisted the Supreme Court of India to introduce technically secure & robust e-filing procedures in India.
Dr. Seth is an active Speaker on Cyberlaw issues in conferences/workshops organized by chambers of commerce including CII,FICCI, ASSOCHAM, PHD Chambers, CIAC,ICSI, ICAI,Data Security Council of India and other leading institutions of the country. She delivers special workshops on Information technology law and practice to honorable Judges from the Judiciary, lawyers, senior Government officers, IAS officers, police officers and IT professionals. She has been Visiting Faculty for cyberlaws at Amity law School, the Indian law Institute, IIT, VIPS, ,University of Delhi,National Institute of Financial Management and other reputed educational institutions of the country.
